Espresso Machine
The espresso machine is the heart of our coffee drink menu. This page covers what it does, its main parts, and the daily maintenance that keeps it running well.
Fully Automatic Machine
Our espresso machine is fully automatic — there is no portafilter, tamping, manual steam wand, backflush, or knock box, and no extended warmup wait.

What It Makes
The machine grinds and brews the espresso and froths the milk itself. It makes:
| Drink | Description |
|---|---|
| Americano | Espresso + hot or cold water |
| Espresso Macchiato | Espresso marked with a little foam |
| Latte, Flat White, Cappuccino | Espresso + machine-frothed milk (more foam for a cappuccino) |
| Macchiato Latte, Military Latte | Lattes with extras; see Specials |
| Cloud Lattes | 1 espresso shot over a milk tea |
Blue Mountain Coffee and Mocha Milk Tea are not made here; they are powder milk teas at the tea station.
Main Parts
To document
The old parts list described a semi-automatic machine and was removed. Add the machine's make and model, a labelled photo (bean hopper, milk line and cup, drip tray, water supply), and what each screen button does.
Daily Maintenance
These tasks keep the machine in good shape and the coffee tasting right. Since the machine is fully automatic, there's no manual backflush, steam-wand purge, or knock box — maintenance is lighter than a semi-automatic setup.
Opening
- Turn on the machine. It's fully automatic — no extended warmup wait.
- Run one espresso to confirm it brews normally before serving customers. Discard it.
- Check the drip tray and empty if needed.
Closing
- Wipe down the exterior of the machine with a damp cloth.
- Empty and clean the drip tray.
- Turn off the machine.
When to Call the Manager
Contact the manager if you notice any of these:
- Machine is not building pressure (shots dribble out slowly or not at all)
- Strange noises during operation
- Water leaking from anywhere other than the drip tray
- Milk not frothing
- Error lights or error messages on the display
For quick fixes you can try yourself, see Troubleshooting.
